Join a group of contractors of a similar size, in the same trade but in a different geographical location.  The purpose is to help each member grow and become more profitable.

There are 6 to 8 members in each group. It’s important to keep them small so that everyone has some input.  The group meets once a year at one of the members’ locations, and then monthly online.

Before the first meeting, we will help each contractor develop a plan called a Business Action Plan.

This will be your road map laid out step by step of how you will achieve your own goals. We found, one-for-one, that contractors prepare far better plans on how to run a job than they do on how to run their business and attain their goals.

Over the last 20 years of running a landscape design-build company, we have gone down a lot of dead-end roads, driven off some very steep cliffs, but somehow, we ended up on our feet with some very valuable systems ready for you to use. While doing your Business Action Plan, we will introduce you to some of these systems to see if they fit.

The Business Action Plan costs $495 (one-time fee), the annual meeting is $1500 and the monthly online meetings are $100. The total annual cost is only $2,700. Membership gives you unlimited access to all the courses and systems we have on our website.

Overall Strategy behind Peer Groups

Every contractor has his goal of where he wants to go and by when. This will be determined in his Business Action Plan, which becomes a very valuable document. It will change and get updated as one progresses, but every Peer Group Meeting, whether online or in person, is designed to help him move a step closer to his goal.

At the meetings, each contractor commits to doing one or more steps in his program and reports on his progress from the last meeting.

There will be problems and issues that arise in doing this and other contractors can share how they approached and solved similar issues.

New goals are set by each contractor for the next meeting.

At the end we will spend time reviewing actions that you can do as an OWNER. I have found that if an owner has an opportunity to define an issue, discuss it and look at options on how to handle it with other owners, the solution usually becomes very apparent.

Each contractor must be willing to share his financials with the other members. All the data is confidential. Sharing financial data gives each contractor an opportunity to see how other contractors are faring and is one of the most rewarding aspects of the program.

This is a great opportunity to meet other contractors that you can share ideas with, in or outside of the meetings.

Peer Groups – FAQs

One of the most powerful tools – Peer Groups!

What are the benefits?

  • You are part of a group in which each member is actively helping the others achieve their stated goals.
  • You’re not alone. You get to share the same problems others have and finally have someone you can talk to.
  • Peer pressure – you will make commitments, not only to yourself, but to the rest of the group. Far greater chance of success.
  • Learn about the successes and failures of others.
  • Compare financial information. Many contractors have no idea what to spend on overhead or when to hire a salesperson or another post. Find out what others are doing.

Who are the members?

  • Contractors that want to succeed.
  • Success-driven entrepreneurs.
  • Owners of a similar size and trade.
  • Non-competitors, as they are in different geographical areas.

When do they meet?

  • Once a year, at one of the members’ facilities, a 2-day affair.
  • Every month online with the facilitator.

What do you do at the meetings?

  • Every member starts off by working with an AIMM System™ coach to develop a Business Action Plan. This is your template for growth and is done before the Annual Meeting
  • The annual meeting: (This is a 2-day event.)
    • Facility tour. Members take turn hosting the annual meeting at their facility and start it off with a tour of their facility.
    • Announce major successes.
    • Each member takes an hour or so to:
      • Review his Business Action Plan with the group.
      • Discuss advancements he has made with his targets.
      • Makes a commitment for the next month and next year.
      • Shares their financials with the group. Often this is the first time a contractor can find out if his costs are in line. The AIMM System has a specific way for contractors to set up their books so that each cost category is the same. Frankly, comparing financials with each member’s books, set up in a different category, is extremely difficult and a waste of time.
    • A seminar by the AIMM facilitator on a valuable business tool that the others can use.
    • A guest speaker
  • Monthly meetings:
    • Announce major successes.
    • Each member takes about 15 minutes to:
      • State what targets he has made on his BAP.
      • Makes a commitment for the next month.
      • Shares their financials data or statistical data as appropriate with the group.

    How much does it cost?

    • Your entry fee is $495 to get your BAP. This is required.
    • The Annual meeting cost is $1500.
    • Monthly meetings are $100. Total annual cost is $2700.

    Are there other resources?

    • We have a website with courses and articles about various subjects, from marketing to sales to crew training, that are very useful.
    • Even job descriptions for the essential posts in the contracting business are available for your use.

What is the size of the companies?

    • There are groups with annual sales under $1 million, $1 to $2.5 million, $2.5 to $5 million, $5 to $10 million, and $10 million and up.
    • Who runs the meeting?

      • They are either run by the founder or a trained facilitator.
